Postdoctoral positions are available in the research group of Stephen Long at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to study eukaryotic ion channels and membrane enzymes. We use a combination of cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, electrophysiology, and other functional assays to delve deep into the molecular mechanisms of these membrane proteins. For examples, see Diver et al (Nature, 2018), Hou et al. (eLife, 2018), Vaisey & Long (JGP, 2018), Baradaran & Wang et al. (Nature, 2018).

Our group is part of the Structural Biology Program at MSKCC, which contains an outstanding cohort of interactive scientists, and is strengthened by a community of nearby colleagues at the Rockefeller University, Weill Cornell Medical College, and the New York Structural Biology Center.

The laboratory is well funded and well equipped with access to state-of-the-art facilities.  Major facilities include routine use of MSKCC’s Titan KRIOS microscope for cryo-EM experiments, high performance computing, and electrophysiology apparatuses.

MSKCC is located on the upper east side of Manhattan, which is a lovely area to live and work. Subsidized housing is available for postdocs and their families and daycare is available for postdocs with young children. Read more about postdoctoral life.

Successful candidates will be passionate about science, creative, highly motivated, eager to learn, and enjoy working independently as well as in a collaborative environment. Candidates should be highly skilled in biochemistry or electrophysiology. Scientists with who are eager to study ion channels or membrane enzymes at a deep level are encouraged to apply. Everyone in the laboratory is involved with all aspects of their research.  The positions require excellent communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English. Candidates are expected to have at least one published or upcoming first author paper. Alumni from the laboratory have been well positioned for their future careers.
