PhD (2012), Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

I am an Associate Attending Geneticist in the Clinical Genetics Service in the Department of Medicine and Associate Director of Bioinformatics of the Robert and Kate Niehaus Center for Inherited Cancer Genomics at MSK. I hold a secondary appointment as Associate Professor of Genetics Research in Medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, NY.

My research focuses on the following areas:

  • Inherited cancer susceptibility: Identifying and characterizing novel germline genomic alterations associated with cancer risk.
  • Integrative germline–somatic genomics: Investigating the interplay between inherited and acquired genomic alterations using large-scale clinical and real-world population data.
  • Precision oncology: Integrating germline and somatic genomic variation to inform patient stratification and targeted therapeutic strategies.

I lead the Inherited Lung Cancer Genomics Initiative, which investigates the contributions of inherited and somatic alterations in DNA damage repair pathways to lung cancer susceptibility and their interactions with environmental risk factors. My team develops statistical, computational, and AI/machine learning pipelines to support translational research and clinical oncology.

I also co-lead hereditary cancer genetics projects in collaboration with MSK clinicians, spanning multiple cancer types, including renal, colorectal, prostate, and breast cancers. These collaborations involve study design, genomic data analysis, and the translation of findings into clinical insights, with a particular emphasis on understanding the contribution of inherited pathogenic and likely pathogenic variants to cancer susceptibility.

My research is supported by an NCI R37 MERIT Award as Principal Investigator, collaborative NCI R01 funding as a Co-Investigator, and funding from the Niehaus Center and other research partners.

Disclosures

Members of the MSK Community often work with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology, and life sciences companies, and other organizations outside of MSK, to find safe and effective cancer treatments, to improve patient care, and to educate the health care community. These activities outside of MSK further our mission, provide productive collaborations, and promote the practical application of scientific discoveries.

MSK requires doctors, faculty members, and leaders to report (“disclose”) the relationships and financial interests they have with external entities. As a commitment to transparency with our community, we make that information available to the public. Not all disclosed interests and relationships present conflicts of interest. MSK reviews all disclosed interests and relationships to assess whether a conflict of interest exists and whether formal COI management is needed.

Semanti Mukherjee discloses the following relationships and financial interests:

  • Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

The information published here is a complement to other publicly reported data and is for a specific annual disclosure period. There may be differences between information on this and other public sites as a result of different reporting periods and/or the various ways relationships and financial interests are categorized by organizations that publish such data.

This page and data include information for a specific MSK annual disclosure period (January 1, 2025 through disclosure submission in spring 2026). This data reflects interests that may or may not still exist. This data is updated annually.
