Postdoc Position in Preclinical and Translational Cancer Genomics and Therapeutics


We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a background in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, or genetics to join the Solit lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, NY.

The Solit lab is routed in leveraging genomic and clinical data from large, prospective tumor sequencing efforts such as the MSK-IMPACT initiative, TCGA and others to derive hypothesis-driven projects and define molecular mechanisms of cancer initiation and progression. These insights are then used to develop novel therapeutic strategies for improving patient care.  The overarching translational goals of the Solit lab are three-fold: 1) use bioinformatic analysis to identify the genomic alteration(s) that promote tumor development and/or progression or influence treatment response; 2) generate lineage specific preclinical models to study the mechanisms by which specific genomic events contribute to tumor growth, survival, and metastasis; 3) define mechanisms of de novo or acquired resistance to cancer therapies.

Ongoing projects in the Solit lab include developing genetically engineered and patient derived models of bladder cancer and melanoma and defining the biology of mutations in the RAS/BRAF/ERK and PI3K/AKT pathways, among others. Approaches utilized include molecular cloning, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, biochemistry, generating novel and using published cell lines models, generating novel PDXs and organoids, assays to determine cell proliferation, survival, metastasis, invasion and transformative potential, vector transfection/infection, mouse models and generating mouse tumor cell lines, drug treatment strategies, next-generation genomic sequencing, RNAseq, single-cell sequencing, etc.


  • A PhD in biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, genetics, or related field
  • Significant analytical skills and experience in molecular and cancer biology
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting with researchers and clinicians
  • Publications in well-regarded peer-reviewed journals

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with genetically engineered mouse models, mouse breeding/care
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing data, RNAseq, single-cell sequencing and common analysis tools
  • Experience with Perl, Python and R/Bioconductor related to probability and statistics
