Assistant Professor

Our laboratory studies neuron-cancer interactions, with a focus on developmental malignancies. Using a multi-disciplinary approach within the emerging field of cancer neuroscience, we leverage neuroscience tools and techniques to interrogate the microenvironmental influence of neural circuitry on pediatric and young adult cancers. Our mission is to identify key mechanisms that drive cancer progression and identify neuromodulatory approaches for rapid clinical translation.

  • Damon Runyon-Sohn Pediatric Cancer Fellowship (2017-2021)
  • Children’s Health Research Institute Fellowship
  • 2014 World Federation of Neuro-oncology and Society of Neuro-oncology (WNFO/ SNO) pediatric basic science award (supported by the Pediatric Brain Tumour Foundation).
  • Demonstrated how pediatric glioma synapses leverage mechanisms of adaptive plasticity, which in the healthy brain are known to regulate cognition.
  • Identified a novel cancer oncogene, ACVR1, in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma.
