Lisa DeAngelis, MD, Chief Physician Executive and Scott M. and Lisa G. Stuart Chair of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), has been named to amNY Metro and PoliticsNY’s Power Players in Healthcare list. The list acknowledges and celebrates healthcare leaders who envision a better future for all New Yorkers and constitute New York’s ever-expanding and constantly improving healthcare system.

Charged with directing MSK’s entire clinical effort, which includes overseeing the care of patients at 20 facilities across New York and New Jersey, including a 500-bed inpatient hospital, Dr. DeAngelis is committed to MSK’s mission of ending cancer for life for New Yorkers and people worldwide. Health disparity is one of the biggest challenges currently facing New York’s healthcare system. MSK is working to advance cancer health equity in the New York community through addressing social determinants for patients with cancer, conducting coordinated outreach to underserved communities, and fostering a more diverse cancer care workforce.

Dr. DeAngelis is an internationally recognized expert in brain cancer and the neurological complications of cancer treatment. During her thirty-year tenure at MSK, she served as chair of the Department of Neurology and co-founded MSK’s Brain Tumor Center. Dr. DeAngelis’ own research has focused on primary brain tumors and she has led several clinical trials that investigate new tumor therapies. She also helped develop the current regimen to treat primary central nervous system lymphoma. She is the author of more than 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 130 book chapters and has written or edited eight books. Dr. DeAngelis is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. She is a fellow of the American Neurological Association (ANA) and former Vice Chair of the Board. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN), which in 2019 awarded her the organization’s highest honor, the Wartenberg Lecture.
