Our Functional and Reconstructive Urology Fellowship is designed to provide urologists with advanced training in complex urinary reconstruction, equipping them with the skills necessary to address the intricate challenges presented by cancer-related urinary dysfunction.

Our fellowship program is tailored to cultivate expertise in the comprehensive care of patients experiencing urinary issues, whether from cancer itself or the effects of cancer treatment. Clinical Experience

Fellows in our program will gain a wide variety of clinical experience focusing on male and female incontinence, urodynamics, OAB, LUTS, upper and lower urinary tract reconstruction, pelvic organ prolapse, prosthetics, fistula management, and BPH. Experience is gained through a multi-disciplinary approach which includes working with urologic oncology fellows and providers with expertise in specific areas such as gynecologic oncology, colorectal cancer, sarcoma, orthopedics, and plastics and reconstruction. Fellows will be working in both the operating room setting as well as the clinic setting. Operative experience will include open, minimally invasive, and endoscopic techniques. MSK has 11 of the latest generation da Vinci® Xi dual-console surgical systems, which are used for both training and collaborative surgeries.

Fellows will have opportunities to present in regular didactic conferences such as the weekly Urologic Oncology Grand Rounds and the monthly Functional Urology and Reconstruction Working Group.  Fellows will also be expected to attend Morbidity and Mortality conferences, as well as the Pelvic Reconstruction Conference led by the Gynecologic Oncology team.

Research Experience

The fellowship experience is primarily clinical. However, research, while not mandatory, is highly encouraged. The fellow will have access to invaluable resources at MSK such as the renowned biostats team, dedicated research faculty and analysts, and opportunities to collaborate with urologic oncology research fellows. Salary and benefits are provided to all fellows according to level of training (number of postgraduate years). In addition, MSK provides housing accommodations at a subsidized rate to all fellows in the form of unfurnished apartments within a short walking distance of the hospital. There are many schools and affordable childcare options nearby.

The program is 1 year long.

Eligibility

All fellowship candidates must have completed residency training in urology. The candidate must have passed the USMLE examinations or any equivalent predecessor or successor examination and hold a valid ECFMG certificate. Selected candidates must qualify for and obtain a limited permit to practice medicine from the New York State Education Department, in accordance with its requirements and be visa eligible.
