Research Interests

Primary cilia are microtubule-based organelles that extend from the surface of most vertebrate cells. Numerous genetic studies revealed that Hedgehog (HH) signaling in mammals depends on this organelle. Aberrant cilia formation and HH signaling causes human tumors and a wide spectrum of human inherited syndromes termed ciliopathies. Using mouse embryo as a model system, my research previously in Anderson lab and now in Joyner Lab aims to investigate the mechanisms that link HH signaling to the primary cilium and that control cilia formation during early embryo development.
