The Richard White Lab at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to study how melanocytes interact with other cells in the microenvironment. Melanocytes are one of the major cell types that form the pigmentation pattern of the fish. They interact with a wide variety of other cells such as keratinocytes, adipocytes and immune cells during embryonic and adult development. The mechanisms by which the melanocytes interact with these other cell types, and how this influences pigmentation, are poorly understood. Pigmentation is essential to physiology and affects feeding, mate choice and protection from predators. In addition, melanocytes can undergo oncogenic transformation, and these cell-cell interactions are an important contributor. The project will use state of the art in vivo imaging, genetics and screens to uncover these mechanisms in an unbiased fashion.
