I thought getting a PhD would give me the chance to explore cutting-edge science with the maximum amount of freedom. I made the decision to apply around my junior year of college, when I was working on a late summer night. I realized that I was the only one left in the lab and that didn’t seem to bother me. I decided that I should try to see if I could make a career out it. I’m interested in RNA biology and their roles in human biology — such as miRNAs and lncRNAs — as well as gene editing and gene therapy technologies (e.g., CRISPR). I enjoy the anticipation of getting the results of an experiment. Though you might be wrong most of the time, when it does work, there is that awesome feeling that you found something that probably no one has discovered yet. That exhilaration will often carry you till your next great result. I was born in New York City, and I enjoy being part of a large metropolis because there’s always something new to check out or discover.
