Gerstner Sloan Kettering student Jessica Rios-Esteves
Gerstner Sloan Kettering student Jessica Rios-Esteves has been awarded the Chairman’s Prize for her first-author paper Stearoyl CoA Desaturase Is Required to Produce Active, Lipid-Modified Wnt Proteins, published in Cell Reports in 2013. Jessica successfully defended her PhD dissertation on July 2, 2014, in the lab of Marilyn Resh.
Jessica’s paper has shed light on the mechanism by which Wnt proteins undergo fatty acylation, a process she says has eluded the scientific mind for years.
The Chairman’s Prize, awarded annually, was established by Gerstner Sloan Kettering Board of Trustees Chairman Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., for whom our graduate school is named. Mr. Gerstner is an internationally renowned corporate leader who has long been an advocate of quality education.
