GSK students Shefali Krishna and Chong Luo at the Second Biennial Retreat in 2012
The Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences’ (GSK) Third Biennial Retreat will take place from April 25–26 at Skytop Lodge in Skytop, Pennsylvania.
The retreat will feature clinician-scientist Todd R. Golub as the keynote speaker. A founding director and chief scientific officer of the Cancer Program at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, Dr. Golub is a past recipient of Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Paul Marks Prize for Cancer Research for his insight in using genes to classify cancers. He is currently the Charles A. Dana Investigator in Human Cancer Genetics at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator.
“In a research environment where high-throughput approaches are becoming standard practice to investigate the mechanisms of disease, we are pleased to hear from Dr. Golub about the latest from his lab,” says retreat committee member and GSK student Bobby Bowman. “His pioneering work in chemical-genetic screens and cancer genomics continues to push forward the boundaries of the cancer research community.”
In addition to Dr. Golub, many GSK students and faculty members will lead sessions throughout the retreat, such as Student & Faculty Talks and a “Hot Topics in Science” panel. View the retreat program to learn more.
In addition to Mr. Bowman, the retreat committee also includes GSK student Jenny Karo and GSK faculty members John Petrini and Richard White. Attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy the scenic resort area throughout the retreat as well.
Past biennial retreat keynote speakers include Mina J. Bissell, PhD; Marc W. Kirschner, PhD; and Richard Hynes, PhD, FRS.
