Current PhD Student
New Students To Join Graduate School
On July 30, thirteen students with innovative and diverse research interests will begin their PhD studies at Gerstner Sloan-Kettering. They will join our collegial community of scientists who work in more than 90 laboratories. Selected from among 220 applicants, our new students hail from the US and countries around the world, from Austria to Vietnam. In addition, during the upcoming summer months, 20 undergraduate students who have demonstrated outstanding scientific aptitude and an interest in biomedical sciences will enter the school to do hands-on research under the tutelage of faculty mentors. This combined community of young scientists will bring their experience and knowledge -- gained in 29 prestigious universities and colleges -- to our scientific community.

Genes Set Scene for Metastasis
Biologists at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center have identified a set of genes expressed in human breast cancer cells that work together to remodel the network of blood vessels at the site of a primary tumor.

Joan Massague Wins Passano Prize
Joan Massague, Gerstner Sloan-Kettering faculty member and Chair of the Cancer Biology and Genetics Program in the Sloan-Kettering Institute, is the recipient of the 2007 Passano Award for the originality and importance of his work elucidating the mechanism of action for transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) signaling.

Johanna Joyce Named to Geoffrey Beene Chair
Johanna Joyce, of the Sloan-Kettering Institute's Cancer Biology and Genetics Program, has been named the first incumbent of a Geoffrey Beene Junior Faculty Chair.
